Survival of deep-sea elasmobranchs

24 de May, 2021 Delasmop

The second objective of the DELASMOP is to evaluate the effect of crustacean bottom-trawl fisheries on the survival of deep-sea elasmobranchs. Immediate mortality rates (i.e., at-vessel mortality) will be determined on board using vitality indices. Long-term mortality rates (i.e., post-release mortalities) will be estimated by tag and release live individuals with a system of numbered dart tags. Thus whenever a tagged individual is retrieved by a fishing boat we will be able to estimate how long the individual survived after being released.
